Harleys on the road''''includes black and white photographs and color, will be open until 16 May.
All Harley Davidson equals rebellion. A spirit of independence. Bugger off and tissues in the neck. Except for the Vespa, no other bike keeps a force as brutal as this iconic two-wheeled vehicle manufactured for the first time in 1903, whose symbolism has grown since then over and over again thanks to cinema and photography. And if not, recall the Easy Rider frames with the two rebel called Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda.
photographer Elsa Gallego has been one of the last to reconcile the deep love affair between the Harley and image. His presentation Harleys on the road 46 black and white photographs and color in the bar of the Hotel Palace in Madrid is a sign of the vitality that still has this bike many years ago. One goal, that of Gallego, who will retail these vehicles, the X-ray as the handlebars or mirrors were the hips, the waist or legs of a runway model. The bike is designed as a beauty. "For me the path of life," says the photographer on the road
"My passion for these bikes came after 15 or 16 years. My father did not like to ride in them and ended up running into cars but my favorite was actually on the bikes and I have never left, "says Gallego Public . This outburst by the two wheels was always equal to that felt by the roads to which photography for years. "For me, the way of life, the sample of what you left behind," he explains.
fact, his photographs of roads solitary triggered this series of images of Harley. In them, the bike is the main character. "I like it appears no one standing on them. In itself represents the dark side of the people who daily go to work and then becomes another thing on that bike," admits the photographer. Is the break with the everyday in a search, also of the essence biker. "I especially like the old bike, the type
chopper, and has the typical features such as skulls and handkerchiefs," he says. E Xtremos
fascinatingMost images were taken at various locations in Spain during the last year although some come from unexpected countries like Syria. "In Arab countries is very difficult to see a Harley, so when I saw them during a trip to Syria did not hesitate to photograph them," he says.
Although the exhibition is a love letter to this aesthetic biker and the vehicle as an object reference, Gallego also wanted to be surrounded by familiar characters from the world of gastronomy, cinema and music to illustrate the images. Thus, among its models are the chef Sergi Arola and the actor Jose Coronado. Gallego also tried to contact the photographer Alberto Garcia-Alix for images, but in the end there was no such meeting. "What was I did not watch any of his series about motorcycles. Alberto is an excellent photographer and did not want to keep in mind your photos to avoid any influence," says Gallegos, who pointed out that if something missing in this series Palace is "a tattooed biker from top to bottom. that if I would have liked to photograph it."
Elsa Gallego studied photography in the early eighties in the now defunct Center for Teaching Image in Madrid. One time, the Movida, which began to take pictures and urban street driven artists like Alix Garcia himself. "I can see a photo in any corner. I guess that's what happens to us all photographers" confesses Gallego, who has worked for fashion reports and made numerous portraits. "Yes, I like photos of people. In fact, I have a predilection for children, because they are very pure, very clean. Their eyes are real," maintains the photographer. The age aspect of it also moves at the ends, because, like children, also fascinated by portraits of the elderly.
